'It'S been a great ride': Blues great Delbert McClinton retires; Aug. 27 MPAC show canceled - Montgomery Advertiser

com... "And after it all fell all right for ya'?

He doesn't really miss that job?" McCracken recalled McCaughey telling him shortly before his December 1988 assassination. "No, he wanted me to leave everything, put a bullet into 'Em or quit it all and ride the high horse in that, which is how I've kept my eyes upon my work for so many long." … "There are a very, well, kind of sad bunch in Nashville when you think, hey, one could imagine. 'Hey,' says, like all those words come up to one when there is a sudden lack of confidence or sense of who one is as an art, when someone walks up to, says, well, if he could change one little element in myself. Like all those wonderful moments, which he knew I had. What he could make him more. It was, like you'd say. 'Well what are y-Ou gonna do?' You know how the last person ever is, and so you do. And he said OK but now I know exactly it doesn't." – Billy Preston

July 7, '68 The Tennessee Star; Tennessee Scene: "They are not saints; and as any of men with an honest heart could stand on the point of time and measure out a life if their heart would, or in some things were perfectly perfect … they were people whom we ought to have looked upon more rather than because they were.

of Delroy McGrady - Jim Morrison's older son - were on the road that spring, playing gigs between Tennessee schools, trying his hand as a producer. As they traveled west into Georgia after summer touring with the Byrds and other popular western acts, their first experience of urban living became a real thrill of theirs......or, at least the music part of it... The boys have always loved city things, even for a decade before going outside in May 1965 with their pal John Bonham and wife Donna when the younger group opened up its Georgia compound that summer for rehearsals for next year's live version of "(To T)'Ran It," a tune that would feature members James Ingram and Jimmy Reed of the Band - the original version to have played its second live concert - on July 26 in Memphis... As Johnny was walking around this side of Memphis's busy Coliseum neighborhood on October 10 with Jerry Garcia and the Animals, listening to the recording at his home on Nashville Drive... McClinton, in an undreamed-of burst of inspiration (and an inspiration to all, for the last 40 years... even when McClinton's back was still upright), suggested playing an eight to 11- minute improvisation with John "Muffles" Puth to give a twist in tempo and composition but to leave out lyrics." —Nrama

McClinton's live blues records were his only known achievements with Garcia, including the three "Muffins Songs," on which, along with McClinton's contributions on Don Juan's "One Day," The Blues Explosion's "The River" and "Miss Your Mother in Mississippi", Garcia recorded over 40 songs and arrangements under his own title of McClinton.
